December I-5 LIVE Call-In Radio Show Title: "The World According to Your Dog" Host: Minnie Sagar Guest speakers: Robin Ehn; CPDT-KA owner Celtic Cur Behavior & Training Donna Conrad of Rx pets Tyler Thompson Shasta County Sheriff K9 officer Date: Monday 12/7 Time: 8:00 - 9:00pm Station: Northstate Public Radio KFPR 88.9 FM Redding Phone: 241-5246
The World According to your Dog Dogs, Dogs, Dogs, there are literally hundreds of breeds of dogs in a variety of shapes and sizes, some have long hair, some have short hair, some have no hair and some are even hypoallergenic. Some dogs work for a living and some lounge for a living. But whatever their occupation, motivating your dog to do what you want can sometimes be akin to asking for a miracle, unless of course you’re a dog trainer. Tonight we’ll talk with a variety of trainers to get some insight into dog psychology and different training techniques that can be used to motivate our canine companions.
The first half hour will focus on how dogs think and view the world, how we tend to humanize their behaviors and what's good and bad about that, and identifying common behavioral issues that we may unknowingly contribute to. The second half hour will focus on the different jobs that you all train dogs to do (police work, agility, good companion, etc.), we'll define those jobs, talk about the expectations that are placed on the dog and then move into training techniques.
